- Type the amount. Commas are optional; up to two decimal places are read as paise or cents.

- Choose the currency words and the letter case.
- Press Copy and paste it where you need it.
Indian and international numbering
| Number | Indian | International |
|---|---|---|
| 1,00,000 | One lakh | One hundred thousand |
| 10,00,000 | Ten lakh | One million |
| 1,00,00,000 | One crore | Ten million |
| 1,00,00,00,000 | One hundred crore | One billion |
In India, commas follow the lakh-crore grouping: 12,34,567 rather than 1,234,567. The figure under the words shows your amount in the grouping you chose.
Writing a cheque correctly
- Start the words close to the left edge of the line, so nothing can be added before them.
- End with “Only”, and draw a line through any empty space after it.
- Make sure the words and the figure match exactly. Banks can return a cheque when they do not.
- Write paise in words too if the amount has them, or write the amount in whole rupees.
On invoices and receipts
Many invoice formats show the total in words under the figure, and it is a habit worth keeping on receipts and quotations because it removes any doubt about a misread digit. Copy the words in UPPER CASE for a formal look, or Title Case to match the rest of the document.
