Why photos get stretched
A photo has a shape, its width compared with its height. When you force it into a different shape, such as a wide phone photo into a square, a basic resizer squeezes it, and faces look thin or fat. This tool keeps the shape and lets you decide what to do with the difference: trim the edges or add space around it.
Fill the frame or show the whole photo
- Fill the frame: the photo covers the whole size and the extra edges are trimmed. Drag it to choose which part stays. Best for profile photos, thumbnails and posts.
- Show the whole photo: nothing is cut. The empty space is filled with a soft blur of the same photo, white, black, any colour, or left transparent. Best for product photos, documents and group pictures.
Moving and zooming
Drag with a finger or the mouse to move the photo. Pinch with two fingers, scroll the mouse wheel, or use the Zoom slider to zoom in. A 3 × 3 grid appears while you move, which helps put eyes on the top line or a subject on a side line. On a keyboard, arrow keys nudge the photo and + and − zoom.
Ready sizes
Instagram square and portrait, Stories and Reels, YouTube thumbnail, WhatsApp profile photo, LinkedIn banner, Facebook cover, passport photo, exam form photo and HD wallpaper are one tap away, or type any width and height up to 8000 pixels. Set a maximum KB under More options when a form has a size limit.
Questions people ask
Will my photo lose quality?
Only if you make it bigger than the original or zoom in a lot. Making it smaller keeps it sharp.
Can I keep a transparent background?
Yes. Choose Show the whole photo, set Empty space to Transparent, and the image is saved as PNG.
How is this different from Resize Image?
Resize Image changes the size of the whole picture. This tool lets you choose an exact frame and position the photo inside it, with no stretching.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser.
