How to make a transparent signature
- Sign on plain white paper with a dark pen. Sign two or three times and use the best one.
- Photograph it from straight above in daylight, without your shadow on the page.
- Add the photo here. The paper disappears in the preview, shown on a checked background.
- Move Paper removal right if grey patches remain, left if thin strokes start breaking.
- Choose blue or black ink, or keep the original colour, and download.
PNG or JPG?
PNG keeps the background transparent, so the signature sits naturally on any document, even on top of a line or a coloured box. Use it with Sign PDF, Word, Google Docs or design apps.
JPG puts the signature on plain white. Use it when a form specifically asks for a JPG signature. For exam forms with pixel and KB limits, take the JPG to the Photo & Signature Resizer.
Full resolution, no watermark
Many background removers give a small preview for free and charge for the full-size file. Here the signature keeps the resolution of your photo, up to 1600 pixels wide, which is more than enough for print. There is no watermark and no account.
Tips for a sharper result
- Gel or ball pens give smoother lines than fountain pens that bleed into the paper.
- Avoid lined or textured paper. The lines can survive the cleanup.
- Get close enough that the signature fills most of the photo.
- If the edges look jagged, take the photo again in brighter light rather than pushing the slider to the extreme.
Keep your signature safe
A clean digital signature is easy to copy. Store the file somewhere private, do not post it publicly, and only place it on documents you mean to sign. FileFitly never uploads it, but once you send a signed document, the receiver has a copy.
Questions people ask
Does it work with a signature on lined paper?
Sometimes, but plain white paper gives a much cleaner result.
Why do some thin strokes disappear?
Paper removal is too high. Move the slider a little to the left.
Can I use this signature in Word?
Yes. Insert the PNG as a picture; the background stays transparent.
Is my signature uploaded?
No. It is processed in your browser.
