How to make an invoice
- Choose GST tax invoice if you are GST-registered, or Simple bill if you are not.
- Fill in your business details once; they are remembered on this device for the next invoice.
- Add the customer. If they are in another state, tick the box so IGST is charged instead of CGST and SGST.
- Add each item with its HSN or SAC code, quantity, rate and GST rate.
- Check the preview and download the PDF. The invoice number goes up by one for next time.
How the GST is worked out
For a sale within your own state, the GST rate is split equally into Central GST and State GST: an 18% item has 9% CGST and 9% SGST. For a sale to another state, the full rate is charged as Integrated GST. Items with different rates are added up slab by slab, and the total is rounded to the nearest rupee with the round-off shown, as most businesses do.
What a GST invoice should show
A tax invoice generally needs your name, address and GSTIN, a serial number unique for the financial year, the date, the customer’s name and address (and GSTIN if registered), HSN or SAC codes, quantity, value, the tax rate and amount for each tax, the place of supply, and a signature. This tool lays out all of these. The exact rules depend on your turnover and business, so ask your accountant if you are unsure.
Getting paid faster with UPI
Add your UPI ID under More options and a QR code with the exact invoice amount is printed beside the total. The customer scans it with any UPI app and the amount fills in by itself, which cuts down on wrong payments.
