How to scan a document with your phone

  1. Put the paper on a table that is darker than the paper. A wooden table or a dark bedsheet is perfect.
  2. Hold the phone above the page, roughly parallel to it, and take the photo in daylight or good room light. Turn the flash off; it makes a bright spot.
  3. Open this page and add the photo. FileFitly looks for the paper and puts a blue dot on each corner.
  4. If a dot is off, drag it onto the corner. On a phone, tap anywhere and the nearest dot jumps there.
  5. Pick the look, add more photos for more pages, and press Make scanned PDF.

Which look to choose

  • Clean colour works for almost everything. It evens out the light, so the paper turns white and shadows from your hand or phone disappear, while stamps, photos and coloured ink stay in colour.
  • Black & white document gives the sharpest text and the smallest file. Use it for printed letters, forms, agreements and notes. Not for ID cards with photos.
  • Greyscale keeps shading, which suits pencil notes and drawings.
  • Original photo only straightens the page and leaves the colours alone.

Scanning for an upload portal

Government, bank and college portals often want one PDF under a fixed size, such as 200 KB or 1 MB. Open More options and type the limit. Every page is squeezed by the same amount so the whole file fits. Black & white with Normal sharpness gets a typical page to well under 100 KB while staying readable.

If the PDF is already made and just too big, use Compress PDF. To join it with other PDFs, use Merge PDF.

Tips for a sharp scan

  • Fill most of the photo with the paper. The more pixels the page has, the sharper the small print.
  • Keep the whole page in the frame, all four corners visible.
  • Avoid a white table under white paper; the edges cannot be found and you will have to place the dots yourself.
  • Curled pages (a thick book) come out slightly bent, because the page itself is curved. Press it flat with your free hand outside the page.

Why a browser scanner

Many scanning apps upload your pages to their servers, add a watermark, or ask for a subscription after a few scans. Here the pages are processed by your own phone or computer and never leave it. That matters for the papers people scan most: ID cards, marksheets, bank forms and agreements. There is nothing to install and no account.

Questions people ask

Do I need to install an app?

No. It works in the browser on Android, iPhone and computers.

Can I scan several pages into one PDF?

Yes. Add one photo per page. Use the arrows in the page list to change the order.

Is there a watermark?

No. The PDF has only your pages.

My PDF is too big for the portal. What do I do?

Open More options and type the KB limit before making the PDF. Black & white with Normal sharpness gives the smallest files.

Are my documents uploaded?

No. The photos are straightened and cleaned on your device.

Can I get JPG instead of PDF?

Yes. Tick Save as JPG images in More options.
