    How to sign a PDF

    1. Drop the PDF you need to sign. The last page opens first, because that is where most signatures go.
    2. Make your signature. Draw it with a mouse or your finger, Type your name in a handwriting style, or Upload a photo of your signature on white paper.
    3. Set the width slider, then click on the page where the signature should sit.
    4. Choose another page from the list to sign more pages. Each placed signature is listed under the page; press ✕ to remove one.
    5. Press Save signed PDF and download.

    Draw, type or upload?

    OptionBest when
DrawYou are on a phone or tablet. A finger gives a more natural line than a mouse.
TypeYou need initials, a date or your printed name next to the signature.
UploadYou want your real pen signature. Sign on white paper, photograph it, and upload.

    Tips for a neat signature

    • On a phone, turn it sideways for a wider drawing box.
    • Draw slowly. Fast strokes on a touchscreen turn into straight segments.
    • For an uploaded photo, use a dark pen on plain white paper in daylight. FileFitly removes the paper so only the ink shows on the document.
    • Most signature lines are 4–6 cm long on paper. On the width slider, around 25–30% of the page width looks natural.
    • Placed it in the wrong spot? Remove it from the list and click again.

This places an image of your signature on the document. It is the digital version of signing a printout and scanning it back. For many everyday documents, such as rental agreements between individuals, internal company forms, consent letters and offer letter acceptances, that is commonly accepted.

Some documents need more. Tax filings, company filings and certain government submissions may require a certified digital signature (in India, a DSC or Aadhaar-based eSign) or a regulated e-signature service. If you are not sure, ask the organisation receiving the file what it accepts.

    After signing

    • Check the file size. If there is an upload limit, run the signed file through Compress PDF.
    • Need your signature as a separate small image for an exam form instead? Use the Photo & Signature Resizer.
