More options hide an ID number automatically

This is the "masked" style many offices accept for Aadhaar: only the last 4 digits stay visible. The reader works in your browser and downloads a language file the first time. Always check the result yourself.

Runs in your browser. Your image is never uploaded, which matters most for the kind of things people hide.

Also built in, free
  • Hides the first 8 digits of a 12-digit ID number automatically
  • Finds and covers long numbers in screenshots
  • Removes GPS location from the saved copy
Quick answerAdd the image, choose Solid black box, drag over every part you want hidden and press Save image. For an ID number, open More options and use the button that hides the first 8 digits automatically, then check the result.

How to hide part of a photo

  1. Add the photo or screenshot, or paste it with Ctrl+V.
  2. Choose how to cover: a solid box, pixelate or blur.
  3. Drag over each thing you want hidden. Made a mistake? Press Undo last box.
  4. Press Save image and download the copy. Your original file is not changed.

Black box, pixelate or blur?

For numbers and short text, always use the solid black box. Blur and pixelate only reduce detail, and on short text with known fonts, the hidden digits can sometimes be guessed back by trying every combination and comparing. A solid box leaves nothing to recover.

Blur and pixelate are fine for faces in the background, number plates in a street photo, or anything large where the look matters more than strict secrecy.

Masking an ID number

When you share a copy of an identity card for a hotel check-in, a rental or a SIM, the other side rarely needs the full number. A common practice in India is the “masked” format, where the first 8 digits of the 12-digit number are hidden and only the last 4 remain, and many offices accept such a copy. Open More options and press the masking button: FileFitly reads the card inside your browser, finds a number written as three groups of four digits, and covers the first two groups.

Check the result before you send it. The number can appear twice on some cards, sometimes in small print near the bottom or the back, and a QR code can contain details too. Cover anything else you need to with your own boxes. Where an official masked copy is required, get it from the issuing authority’s own website.

What people usually hide

  • Bank account and card numbers in payment screenshots
  • Phone numbers and names in chat screenshots shared in groups
  • Home address on a parcel label or a bill
  • Faces of children or strangers in photos posted online
  • Passwords, OTPs or email addresses visible in a screen recording frame

Hidden details in the file

Photos from phones often carry the GPS location where they were taken. The saved copy is made from the pixels only, so location and camera details are not included. That is another reason to share the saved copy rather than the original.

Questions people ask

Can someone remove the blur later?

A solid black or white box cannot be removed from the saved image. Strong blur and pixelation are hard to reverse for faces, but short numbers can sometimes be guessed, so use a solid box for numbers.

Is my image uploaded to find the number?

No. The number reader runs inside your browser. The first use downloads its language file once.

Does it change my original photo?

No. You download a new copy with the covered parts.

Does it work on iPhone?

Yes, including HEIC photos and screenshots.

Is the masked copy an official document?

No. It is your own copy with digits covered. If a masked copy from the issuing authority is required, download that from their official site.
