How to compress a video to 25MB
- Drop your video in the box, or tap to choose it from your phone or computer.
- Pick the limit. 25MB is selected because that is Gmail’s attachment limit. Use Custom for any other number.
- Leave Resolution on Automatic unless you have a reason to change it.
- Press Compress. A one-minute clip usually takes well under a minute on a recent phone or laptop.
- Play the preview, then download.
How FileFitly hits the size
A video’s file size is simply its bitrate multiplied by its length. A 2-minute video that must fit in 25MB can use about 1.6 megabits per second in total. FileFitly sets aside a little for sound and for the file’s own structure, gives the rest to the picture, and then encodes.
Video encoders do not always land exactly on the bitrate they are asked for. So after encoding, FileFitly measures the real file. If it came out over the limit, it tries again slightly smaller, so the file you download is under the number you chose.
Why the resolution sometimes drops
A 4K video squeezed into a small file looks worse than a 720p video at the same size, because the bits are spread over too many pixels and everything turns to blocks. On Automatic, FileFitly picks the highest resolution that still gets enough bitrate per pixel to look clean. A long video in a small limit may come out at 480p; a short clip may keep its full resolution.
| Length | Into 25MB | Into 16MB |
|---|---|---|
| 30 seconds | 1080p, clean | 1080p or 720p |
| 1 minute | 1080p or 720p | 720p |
| 3 minutes | 720p or 540p | 480p |
| 10 minutes | 360p | Rough. Pick a bigger limit. |
These are rough guides for typical phone footage. Fast action and grainy low-light clips need more bitrate than a talking head against a plain wall.
Common video size limits
| Where | Limit to aim for |
|---|---|
| Gmail attachment | 25 MB |
| Outlook attachment | 20 MB |
| Discord without Nitro (raised in 2026; check the app) | 20 MB |
| Older WhatsApp limit, still a safe size for fast sending | 16 MB |
| Assignment and job portals | as the portal says |
Apps change their limits from time to time. If an app says the file is too big, check the number it shows and compress to just under it.
Getting a better result
- Trim first. Every second you cut is bitrate you can give to the rest. Use the start and end boxes in Video Converter to cut the clip, then compress it here.
- Remove the sound if it is not needed, such as a screen recording for a bug report. That frees up space for the picture.
- Do not compress twice. Start from the original video each time.
Which browsers work
FileFitly uses the video encoder built into your browser (WebCodecs). The latest Chrome, Edge, Opera and Brave on Windows, Mac and Android make standard H.264 MP4 files that play everywhere. Safari on recent iPhones, iPads and Macs works too. Some Linux browsers cannot make H.264; there the video is saved as WebM, which plays in Chrome, Firefox and Android but not on older iPhones.
Because the work happens on your device, a recent phone or laptop is faster, and very long videos need enough free memory. Videos up to a few hundred MB are comfortable on most devices.
Private by design
Most online video compressors upload your whole video to their server. FileFitly never does. The file is read, compressed and saved inside this browser tab. That is also why there is no queue, no upload bar and no daily limit.
Questions people ask
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit. Very large or very long videos depend on your device's memory and speed.
Will it add a watermark?
No. The video is yours, unchanged except for size.
Why did my video come out as WebM?
Your browser cannot create H.264 MP4 files, which happens on some Linux systems. Run it in Chrome or Edge on Windows, Mac or Android to get MP4.
Can I compress iPhone HEVC videos?
Yes, in browsers that can read HEVC, such as Safari and Chrome or Edge on most Windows and Mac computers. If your browser cannot read it, the page tells you.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Everything happens on your device.
